About these terms
Last updated: October 2026
static.md is run by Vadim Russu, an individual based in Moldova, not by a company. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Vadim Russu as the operator of static.md.
These terms are the agreement between you and us for using static.md: the website with its notes, whiteboards and image hosting, the StaticShot for Mac app, and the MCP server for AI agents. By using static.md you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.
The service
static.md lets you write markdown notes, draw on Excalidraw whiteboards and host images, on your own or with others in real time.
We keep improving it, so features change: we may add, change or remove them, and change what each plan includes. The limits that apply today are on the Pricing and AI agents pages.
The source code of static.md is public. Its open-source license covers the code only, not the static.md service or anything people store on it.
Accounts and anonymous use
You don’t need an account to use static.md. Without one, your browser gets an anonymous session, and the notes and whiteboards you create belong to it: if you clear your browser’s storage or switch devices, you lose access to them. Signing in with Google keeps them with your account on every device.
Paid plans and AI agent access need a Google sign-in. You’re responsible for what happens on your account, and for keeping it and any personal access tokens you create safe. If you think someone else has access, write to [email protected].
Plans and payment
- Free. No charge, with the limits shown on the Pricing page.
- Pro. A monthly or yearly subscription that renews automatically until you cancel. New subscriptions may start with a free trial: cancel before it ends and you aren’t charged. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal, and Pro stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Founding Lifetime. A single payment for Pro with no renewals, offered to a limited number of people. “Lifetime” means for as long as static.md runs the service. If you already subscribe, your subscription is cancelled at the end of the period you’ve paid for.
Payments are handled by Creem (creem.io), our merchant of record. Creem processes the payment, charges any sales tax or VAT and sends the receipt, and its terms apply to the purchase. We never see or store your card details.
For a refund, write to [email protected] within 7 days of a charge and we’ll sort it out.
Your content
What you create and upload stays yours: notes, whiteboards, images and anything else.
So that we can run static.md, you give us permission to store, copy, process and display your content, and to show it to the people you share it with, including link previews of shared notes and whiteboards. This permission is only for running static.md, and it ends when your content is deleted from static.md.
You’re responsible for your content, and you confirm you have the right to store and share it.
Sharing
New notes and whiteboards open to anyone with their link, and images to anyone with their URL. Links are long and random, but anyone you give one to can pass it on. Pro lets you limit a note or whiteboard to yourself or to people you name, and make it read-only.
You decide who gets your links. We aren’t responsible for access to your content through links you share or that leak.
End-to-end encryption
With end-to-end encryption (a Pro feature), a note or whiteboard is encrypted in your browser before it reaches us, with a key that only you and the people you give it to hold. We can’t read encrypted content, moderate it or recover it: if you lose the key, the content is gone for good. AI agents can’t read or change encrypted items either.
AI agents (MCP)
You can connect AI agents and apps, such as Claude, Cursor or VS Code, to your static.md account over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), or give a script a personal access token.
An agent gets only the access you approve on static.md’s consent screen, or the permissions you give a token. Changing who can open your notes and whiteboards is a separate permission. You can disconnect an app or delete a token at any time under Connected apps, and it stops working within seconds.
An agent acts on your behalf: what it does with the access you give it, such as editing a note or changing who can open it, counts as done by you. Agent tool calls count toward your plan’s limits. The AI apps themselves are run by other companies under their own terms.
Acceptable use
Don’t use static.md to:
- store or share anything illegal, including child sexual abuse material and intimate images shared without consent;
- infringe anyone’s copyright, trademarks, privacy or other rights;
- spread malware, phishing, spam or scams;
- harass, threaten or expose anyone;
- use image hosting as a general file host or CDN, or upload in bulk by script, without asking us first;
- get around plan limits, rate limits or access controls, or try to open other people’s notes, whiteboards or images by guessing or enumerating links;
- probe, overload or attack static.md, or get in the way of other people using it.
This covers everything done through your account, including by agents and tokens you’ve connected.
Moderation and reports
Uploaded images are checked automatically, with Google Cloud Vision, to catch illegal and harmful content. We may remove content, block IP addresses, or suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the law, or that put static.md or other people at risk, without notice where needed.
To report abuse or a copyright infringement, write to [email protected] with the link and what’s wrong. We review reports and act promptly on valid ones.
Availability and backups
We work to keep static.md fast and available, but we can’t promise it will always be up, free of errors, or that content will never be lost. Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you.
No warranty
static.md is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, static.md isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or business, arising from your use of static.md or from not being able to use it. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid static.md in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited, or takes away your rights as a consumer.
Ending your use
You can stop using static.md at any time. You can delete your notes and whiteboards yourself; to have your account and its data deleted, write to [email protected].
We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or the law requires it, or if we stop running static.md. Unless it’s for a serious breach or the law prevents it, we’ll give you notice so you can save your content.
The parts of these terms that by their nature should last, such as your ownership of your content, the warranty disclaimer and the limits of liability, still apply after your use ends.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as static.md changes. We’ll post the new version here with a new date, and if a change significantly affects you, we’ll tell signed-in users in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using static.md after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms; if you don’t agree, stop using static.md and cancel any subscription.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Moldova, and disputes go to the courts of Moldova. If you use static.md as a consumer, this doesn’t take away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
